School of Psychological Sciences

Welcome to the School of Psychological Sciences at the University of Indianapolis. The School offers an undergraduate (B.A., B.S.) psychology major and both the Master of Arts (M.A.) degree and the Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) degree in Clinical Psychology (APA accredited).

The School of Psychological Sciences consists of 15 full-time and several adjunct faculty members who are skilled educators—scholars with a strong commitment to teaching. Many of the psychology faculty serve in various roles as practicing professionals in the community.

The School of Psychological Sciences is located in the recently renovated Good Hall, the landmark building of the university. Students are taught in modern classrooms using the latest technological resources. A variety of specialized training facilities are also utilized in many upper-level and graduate classes at the University of Indianapolis.

There are four Clinical Therapy Labs available for the teaching of individual, couple, and family psychotherapy skills. These rooms are equipped with videotape cameras and monitors for feedback and instruction. The rooms are linked in pairs so that events in one room can be viewed in another.

The Psychological Assessment Lab is equipped with mirrored windows for live observation or videotaping of students as they learn psychological testing and assessment skills. The Human Development and Family Studies Lab offers a larger area for the observation and videotaping of family sessions, sibling studies, and small group experiences.

The Large Groups Lab includes electronically interconnected classrooms that allow for the videotaping and monitoring of experiential groups, class exercises, psychoeducational programs, and other large group activities.

Individualized Study and Research Labs are also available that students can use for various purposes. Each of these rooms is equipped with a networked computer station. Both Macintosh and PC platforms are available. Students can use these facilities for research projects, classroom assignments, and personal study.

Computer facilities in the School and throughout the University allow graduate students access to word processing, spreadsheets, data base operations, statistical packages, and e-mail, with the convenience of a high-speed internet connection.

The Psychological Services Center, operated by the School of Psychological Sciences and located in Good Hall, not only serves the community with assessment and therapeutic services, but also provides a major locale for practical experience and training for graduate students. The Center offers research opportunities, a wide variety of experience in the types of services provided and clients seen, and exceptional supervision.

The Krannert Memorial Library contains the major journals and publications in the field of clinical psychology. Additional periodic holdings and textbooks are available from a variety of academic libraries throughout the city of Indianapolis. Krannert Library offers computerized literature searches (PsycINFO, Silver Platter, Medline, ERIC, etc.) and inter-library loan capabilities, as well as the ability to request copies of articles from numerous other libraries throughout the region.

A special area has been reserved as a Psychology Graduate Student Study Lounge where students meet for social or study purposes, or relaxation when solitude is desired. Student mailboxes and computers are also located in this area, which serves as an important communication center.

The School of Psychological Sciences is also an APA approved continuing education sponsor and offers colloquia and workshops throughout the year free of charge to students. Media services, writing labs, career placement services, a health center, physical fitness center and counseling services all contribute to the quality of resources available to the University of Indianapolis student.
