Diversity Advisory Council (DAC)
A major goal of the School of Psychological Sciences at the University of Indianapolis is to foster an understanding and appreciation for the diversity represented by individuals of different cultures, genders, ethnicities, races, religions, sexual orientations, ages, and disabilities. To this end, the Diversity Advisory Council was formed to:
- actively promote diversity in the composition of the student body, faculty, and staff in the University of Indianapolis psychology community;
- enhance awareness and understanding of diversity issues as they pertain to academic life, personal and interpersonal development, and professional life; and
- actively promote the active participation of diverse individuals and groups in the university community.
The tasks of the Diversity Advisory Council include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Developing strategies for improving recruitment and retention of diverse students.
- Developing programming designed to enhance sensitivity and increase awareness of issues related to diversity.
- Reviewing recruitment data collected by the program (e.g., numbers of applications received from ethnic minority applicants, enrollment figures, etc.) and making recommendations to the program.
- Identifying resources (e.g., financial, supportive, assistive) available to diverse students and disseminating this information.
- Providing mentoring opportunities for culturally diverse students.
Membership of the DAC includes a student representative.
